His forthcoming memoir A Mile at a Time is about his relationship with his father, Mark Macy, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2018. The two often host a podcast, The Travis Macy Show, together, and competed in the World's Toughest Race Eco-Challenge Fiji.
Travis shares the value of rest and optimism when balancing family, mental health, and training, and the importance of having a beginner’s mindset when you’re new to something.
Travis, who has finished more than 130 ultra endurance events in 17 countries, is also the author of "The Ultra Mindset." During his pro career, he set a record (since broken) for Leadman, an epic endurance event consisting of a trail running marathon, 50-mile mountain bike race, Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race, 10k road run, and Leadville 100 Run, all above 10,200' in the Rocky Mountains.
This is a shared episode that we recorded for both the Travis Macy show and The Hard Way. I’m a big fan of Travis’ podcast, his wisdom and the work he does and I enjoyed the chance to interview him and to answer his thoughtful questions about my path. This episode is part of Life Cycles, a series of episodes about how bikes change people and the world. Different people find different ways to seek and create change within themselves, their community and the world; for me, it has been cycling. The power of hearing these stories inspires people to reach beyond what is possible in life.
